"What A Child Is Meant To Be" - Revisiting a Song I Love

These song lyrics have been in my mind for days now ... trying to find a musical link and will post it when I do. I need to find the chords so I can learn to play it on my guitar. Yup ... picked up my guitar again recently after a long hiatus. It's good to be playing and singing again.

In my weakness I find
That Your strength knows no bounds

And in my loneliness I find
That the everlasting arms surround me

And even with this fragile heart
I find a place to rest here, safe where You are…

And I am falling into grace again
And I am running where mercy never ends

Lord I’m learning that your love can cover me
You are teaching me what a child is meant to be

Anyone else see profoundness in the fact that the FIRST WORLD-WIDE, simultaneously-broadcast satellite transmission was the Beatles singing "All You Need Is Love"?

The more complex the world and it's "situations" become, the more appealing the simple truth remains, eh? Enjoy a bit of simple truth.

I found myself overcome with fear today . . .

It struck out of the blue, it seemed, almost like a presence crawling up my neck. The fear was of losing my job (I'm an "at will" employee . . . can be dismissed without cause with no explanation) since there is such a climate of fear as so many wonder about the "security" of their jobs. But then, almost as "out of the blue" as the fear arrived, a beautiful thought came to me. In one sentence I know so well: "I shall not want." Psalm 23. One of my most beloved. So I began to type out on my computer what I recalled of it from memory, and as I did, the fear shattered like broken crystal. I found this on YouTube ... and thought the acoustic guitar mad fantastic!

The Invitation

A lot of the prose in the below "Invitation" really resonated with me, and that is why I posted it today. I liked some of her recent blog entry on intimacy too. (". . . every time I am deeply touched and surprised to rediscover what tender, vulnerable creatures we all are. Being in an intimate relationship puts the other’s tender bits in our hands, means we must be willing to allow our own vulnerability to be held by another imperfect human being.") You can find it HERE.

The Invitation

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.

I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even if its not pretty every day, and if you can source your life from The presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the sliver of the full moon, "Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are and how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

The Dilemma

To laugh
is to risk appearing a fool.

To weep
is to risk appearing sentimental.

To reach out for another
is to risk involvement.

To expose feelings
is to risk rejection.

To place your dreams before the crowd
is to risk ridicule.

To love
is to risk not being loved in return.

To go forward in the face of overwhelming odds
is to risk failure.

But risks must be taken
because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

The person who risks nothing does nothing,
has nothing, is nothing.

He may avoid suffering and sorrow,
but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.

Chained by his certitudes,
he is a slave.

He has forfeited his freedom.
Only a person who takes risks is free.

Feature Blog this Week: "Raw Humour"

But first take a look at this clip of Ricky Gervais chatting about the "disease" of obesity.  I have to say, I'm on board w/ Ricky.  My struggles with weight become less and less as I eat less of what's not real food and more of what is; and my energy/overall fitness increases as my walking does!  Who knew?  I agree w/ Ricky . . . slimness and fitness are not denied a person through disease so much as by personal choices.  (Per Ricky, what WILL be denied the obese is passage on an airplane if one's bum cannot fit into the seat!)

Even as in my case -- where a wacked-out thyroid didn't help matters -- fitness can be regained by eating reasonably and exercising moderately and consistently.  It may take a bit longer to accomplish w/ a thyroid handicap, yeah, but it is doable!  Thanks be to God.  Amen.  So -- anyone out there dealing with a thyroid imbalance, take heart.  And then take out those sweat pants from the back of the closet and get moving!

Now, for a few laughs . . . click on Ricky.
